Beyond the Basics: Into the Beehives
An intimate, small-group, hands-on class at Windy Acres Apiary, designed for beginner beekeepers and those wanting to build their confidence with hive inspections.
Together, we’ll inspect multiple colonies and learn how to assess the health of a hive, what to look for and when to take action.
This is a hands-on experience, with every participant having the opportunity to work in and with the hives under guidance.
What you’ll learn:
Checking queen health, eggs, larvae and brood patterns
Recognising signs of disease and other hive health concerns
Assessing honey and pollen stores
Performing a Varroa alcohol wash and discussing treatment options
Keeping accurate hive inspection notes and records
We’ll explore a range of hive styles, which may include traditional Langstroth, Flow, top-bar, cathedral and long Langstroth hives.
