Meet the people behind Windy Acres

Meet the family…

Windy Acres is the home to the Vohland family - Alicia, Craig and their two children.

Alicia and Craig decided to build a lavender farm and apiary on the land they purchased in 2019 from Alicia’s parents, who still live next door.

Bringing Windy Acres to life is not only a family affair, it’s a labour of love. Our passion for the earth’s ecosystem and the important role bees play in it spans generations.

Alicia was just 15 years old when she fell in love with lavender. Her family took a road trip from Westbrook to Adelaide and stopped at lavender farms in the Adelaide Hills.

That was when the love affair with lavender started and now, some 20 years later, Alicia and her husband Craig and family are building a lavender farm and apiary, potentially inspiring more young people to learn and love lavender and bees as much as the Vohlands do.

Creating a viable future for our family.

Meet Alicia & Craig

Alicia Vohland

Alicia grew up on this land. After building a house on an acre in 2011, Alicia and Craig later purchased an additional 22 acres. Alicia’s background is in primary school teaching.

“I love the country life and the freedom of living on acreage. I enjoy getting crafty and sewing and I’m using my skills to hand make the beeswax based and lavender products we sell.”

Craig Vohland

Craig grew up in Dalby and St George and has vast experience in earth moving and civil construction, having operated machinery and now as a Project Surveyor.

He’s always enjoyed ‘playing in the dirt’, as his dad would tell. It’s only fitting that he is the master designer and builder of our beautiful lavender rows and raised mounds.

Windy Acres got its name from the wild winds that appeared during Alicia and Craig’s wedding on the property.

Why Windy Acres?

It rained on Alicia and Craig’s wedding day, but just as Alicia and her daughter were due to walk across the lawn for the backyard ceremony, the clouds parted.

Once the ceremony was over and the photos had been taken, the weather turned again.

As everyone huddled with quilts under a marquee in near cyclonic weather, the term ‘Windy Westbrook’ was born!
