Discover Windy Acres

Our lavender and bee farm

Alicia grew up on this land.
It’s a part of who she is.

Then Alicia met Craig, the boy who always loved playing in dirt, and the land became a part of him too.

This land is special…

At first, we lived on a one acre patch of the land. In 2019 the opportunity arose to buy a further 22 acres from Alicia’s parents (who still live next door).

But what should we do with the land? It had previously been used for livestock and crops but we wanted to do something different. Perhaps we could fulfil a lifelong dream of owning a lavender farm?

And so, Windy Acres was born.

Windy Acres Lavender

Windy Acres is positioned on 23 acres at Westbrook, just 10 minutes from the Toowoomba CBD in South East Queensland.

Perfect conditions for a lavender farm

The Windy Acres land was once used for livestock and feed crop. It has heavy, black, clay soil. We’re fortunate to have a potable bore and large dam on our property for watering, in times of drought.

The land itself is relatively flat, with several waterways running through. Bunkers Hill makes for the perfect sunset backdrop behind the lavender paddocks.

Westbrook has mild summers and mild winters, with some below zero days and frosts. These conditions are remarkably similar to areas of France where lavender farms flourish.

Bees have always been a passion of our family.

Always meant to “bee”

Alicia’s family has always had swarms of native bees on the property thanks to the local Pepperina trees.

We started our Apiary (bee farm) in November 2020, while still planning the lavender paddocks. We started with two hives, one of which is sponsored by Green Bee Communications, after a chance encounter on Instagram.

The next two hives were split from the original two – one swarmed to a nearby tree and the other was split.

Hive five and six arrived in late January 2021, another sponsored hive by Beewell Aromatherapy. We took our first honey harvest in January 2021 and look forward to many more to come!

We combined our passions for lavender and bees to build our dream family business.

 Living in perfect harmony

It’s our dream to create a sustainable business that helps to support local businesses, produce beautiful natural products, provide a beautiful destination for photography and, perhaps most importantly, contribute to our delicate ecosystem that relies so heavily on the pollination of bees.
